By hook or by crook:  Kumar Gaurav hopes to impress in Kaante. The face might have aged, but it still has the same cute, chocolate-boy look. Meet, once again, Kumar Gaurav . More than two years after the late Mazhar Khan's eminently forgettable Gang, Gaurav is back with Sanjay Gupta in the slick flick Kaante (2002) . He is in good company. His brothers-in-arms in this remake of Quentin Tarantino's violent Reservoir Dogs are Amitabh Bachchan , Sanjay Dutt , Sunil Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar and Lucky Ali. The six play a group of immigrants who plan a daring bank robbery. Shot entirely in Los Angeles with in-sync sound and an all-American crew, the film is slated to hit the screens in the last week of July or early August. Gaurav , whose careergraph spiralled down after his successful debut film Love Story (1981) with Vijayta Pandit , has many expectations from Kaante (2002) . "I play Andy, a computer expert," he says, about
Kumar Gaurav Determined to Bounce Back. Kumar Gaurav , the chocolate hero of the  1980s , is at last coming out of self- imposed hibernation. And it is none other than his brother-in-law  Sanjay Dutt  who is helping to bounce back to Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt  is venturing into film production after forming his company White Feather Films along with his friend  Sanjay Gupta . The duo have plans to launch their film titled  Kaante  the coming months and  Kumar Gaurav  has a very important role in it. Directed by  Sanjay Gupta , the film is based on Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino's " Reservoir Dogs ". It is about seven bank robbers who loot a bank. Driven by greed, they kill one another.  Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Akshay Khanna  and  Amitabh Bachchan  play the trigger-happy robbers and  Kumar Gaurav  plays the undercover cop recruited to nab them. Kumar  is convinced that  Kaante  will catapult him back into the limelight. We saw
Kumar Gaurav’s daughter marries Amrohi’s grandson. In March, Kamal Amrohi's grandson Bilal confessed his love for Kumar Gaurav and Namrata Dutt's daughter Saachi and announced that he would marry her one day. Well, the couple who have been dating for the last four-and-a-half years, have tied the knot.   Namrata confirmed the news saying, "Yes, Saachi has married Bilal. We wanted to keep it quiet, but now that you ask.... We had the option of calling everybody or just the immediate family. We chose the latter." The reason the wedding, which happened in Mumbai few days ago, was a hush-hush affair because Namrata's brother and Bunty's best buddy, Sanjay Dutt is in jail.   Bilal's father Tajdar, who not so long ago was raving about Saachi saying she is "prettier than most heroines and could have become a top star if she wished," was more reticent this time saying, "I'm happy with whatever has happened but I don't wish to el
Naam (1986): The film Kumar Gaurav made for buddy Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay Dutt's   career got off to a Rocky start in '1981. Following a battle with drugs and a series of flops, it had hit a dead end five years later. In these testing times, his buddy who became his brother-in-law,   Kumar Gaurav , not only stood by him but was determined to make a film that would bring him back into the race. This film was Naam. The idea of two half-brothers came from   Mahesh Bhatt , who during his growing up years was haunted by the ghost of his own illegitimacy. He sketched out the story of Ravi and Vicky to the two young actors and instantly, impulsively,   Kumar Gaurav   decided to turn it into a film under his banner. His father,   Rajendra Kumar , wasn't convinced, having spotted the dangers inherent in the script."Even though it was a two-hero project,   Rajendra Kumar   knew that the audience's sympathies would eventually swing from   Kumar Gaurav'
Bollywood goes to Berbice: Kumar Gaurav and film crew arrives. The movie " Guiana 1838 " is definitely in the making now that Indian film star,   Kumar Gaurav   and a crew arrived in Guyana yesterday morning. Indian film star, Kumar Gaurav and Shalini Singh in the compound of State House yesterday morning after meeting with President Bharrat Jagdeo. Singh will also be apart of " Guiana 1838 (2004) ". Gaurav, who is known as the `Chocolate Hero' of the eighties, appeared to be very calm despite a hectic schedule of making three films before August. Gaurav, who is from Bombay, India is now headed for Berbice for the continuation of the feature film, " Guiana 1838 (2004) ". According to the director and the producer, Rohit Jagessar, the film will focus on the abolition of slavery and the arrival of Indians in Guyana during the 19th century. Gaurav said that the atmosphere in Guyana is very good so far and he is excited to be here. He spok
Check out Rajendra Kumar with son Kumar Gaurav. He may not have followed in his father’s footsteps to box office glory but  Kumar Gaurav  shared a close camaraderie with his dad, late  Rajendra Kumar . An actor who earned the moniker ‘ Jubilee Kumar ’, in the 1960s when six to seven of his films ran in their silver jubilee weeks simultaneously, Rajendra, tried his best to launch his son into stardom, and for a while, even succeeded. He produced and starred in  Gaurav’s  debut vehicle,  Love Story (1981) , which proved to be a blockbuster, not to mention established the young actor as a chocolate hero of the 1980s. He continued to produce films for his son –  Janam (1985)  and  Naam (1986) , (the latter also starred  Gaurav’s  brother-in-law  Sanjay Dutt  in the lead). Gaurav went on to win rave reviews for his performance in the Mahesh Bhatt-directed  Janam (1985)  but his subsequent films failed to make a mark at the box office. Forced to take a long hiatus from act
Kumar Gaurav: 'I'm an actor' Finally, at 40 plus, it seems like   Kumar Gaurav's   second innings has actually started. In the news because of his performance in the late Mazhar Khan's much belated Gang, he has also acted in two rather slick telefilms --  Sikander   and   Chocolate , both directed by Vivek Agnihotri -- which are due for release soon.   . He speaks of the experience in rather staccato bursts, as if unwilling to discuss a career noted, more than anything else, for its massive run of ill luck. For   Bunty , as he is fondly known, is acknowledged as a fine actor. His very first film, Love Story, brought him adulation and bouquets in no mean measure. The industry pundits predicted that a star worth watching had been born. Challenging roles like   Janam (1985)   and   Naam (1986)   followed, but he was unable to reactivate the audience's response to successful stars. Though everyone acknowledged his acting capabilities, his career pe
Kumar Gaurav To Revive His Father’s Banner There was talk that Sanjay Dutt and brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav would together revive their fathers’ respective banners and make a film together.  That was along time ago but now we’ve learnt that Gaurav has indeed decided to resurrect his home production. The first film to be made under this banner is a remake of yesteryear hit Naam (1986), which was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. There’s no news yet on who will play the leading men, earlier played by Sanjay Dutt and Kumar Gaurav years ago. Here’s wishing Gaurav tons of luck! by Box Office India  Post : June 16, 2012 http://www.boxofficeindia.co.in/kumar-gaurav-to-revive-his-father%E2%80%99s-banner/
Kumar Gaurav is an Indian actor who shot to fame with the blockbuster romantic film ‘ Love Story ’ released in 1981. He later starred in successful films like ‘ Janam (1985) ’, ‘ Naam (1986) ’ and ‘ Kaante (2002) ’.  Kumar Gaurav was born as Manoj Tuli on July 11, 1960 to renowned Bollywood actor Rajendra Kumar. Kumar Gaurav made his acting debut in the year 1981 as a romantic hero in ‘ Love Story ’ opposite Vijeyta Pandit. Produced and directed by his father Rajendra Kumar, ‘Love Story’ also starred Rajendra Kumar, Vidya Sinha, Danny Denzongpa and Naresh. The film became a super success and Kumar Gaurav became a rage among the  youngster .  Kumar Gaurav next appeared in A C Trilogchander’s ‘ Teesri Kasam (1982) ’ also starring Poonam Dhillon, Girish Karnad and Nirupa Roy. Kumar Gaurav: Star of 1980s Dear God, how time flies. Kumar Gaurav , of melting, caramel eyes and bee-stung lips and the signature blue jeans and red jacket that he wore along with the coolest vibe we had seen a young hero sport in the 80s, for a while atleast, is in his mid 50s!  I watch him sometimes in YouTube grabs from films like Lovers , Romance , Naam , L ove Story and remember what it was like to be a teenager and collect his posters (Sun magazine had released his life-sized poster in two parts…denim clad legs first and then the torso!).  I remember how cathartic it was to cry every time he pouted at the camera with a heart-felt, “Yaad Aa Rahi Hai.” Decades later I saw him and his daughter Saatchi walk the ramp for a cause in Mumbai and let out a deep sigh of resignation.  Time changes and it changes people, unsparingly and without exception. I don’t miss anything about Bollywood: Kumar Gaurav Actor Kumar Gaurav doesn’t harbour any Regrets about turning his back on films. You’ve been dormant in Bollywood  since the early 1990s. What has kept you occupied? Gaurav : I’ve been keeping busy in life. I have a travel business in Maldives and I was into some construction (business). I’ve not been doing films because I haven’t been getting good offers. Nothing interesting has come my way. The day I get one, I’ll do it because I want to believe in it and enjoy it. I just don’t want to do films for the heck of it. Don’t you miss showbiz? Gaurav : I don’t miss anything about showbiz or Bollywood. My stardom was God’s grace and I am grateful to all my fans and appreciate their love for me. But I very much like my space. I’d rather stay with my family than go out. Do you regret making wrong choices in your career? Gaurav : I don’t have any regrets. You win some, you lose some. That’s the journey o
Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Janam’ to be remade His "Arth" and "Daddy" were recently turned into stage productions and now there is talk of Mahesh Bhatt's 1985 autobiographical film "Janam" being remade. Bhatt is definitely a man of countless volatile and tender experiences.   Kumar Gaurav   played the illegitimate son of a filmmaker whose only ambition was to become a filmmaker, without being defined by the existing references of his personal world, mirroring Bhatt’s personal progress. This coming-of-age saga was telecast on   Doordarshan in 1985   and the news was delayed for 14 minutes till the movie was over, an unprecedented event. (The original featured Kumar Gaurav as Mahesh Bhatt. Now the latter’s protege Imran Zahid would be doing the needful.) His “ Arth ” and “ Daddy ” were recently turned into stage productions and now there is talk of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1985 autobiographical film “ Janam (1985) ” being remade.  The original featu
